Security at btcvaults
Our platform is built on the fundamental principles of Bitcoin: self-sovereignty, transparency, and security through decentralization.
Non-Custodial Architecture
- btcvaults is a non-custodial platform. We never have access to your private keys or your bitcoin. All assets are secured on the Bitcoin blockchain, under the direct control of the key holders.
Multisignature Security
- Every vault utilizes Bitcoin's native multisig capabilities (P2WSH). This requires multiple keys to authorize a transaction, eliminating single points of failure and providing robust protection against theft or loss.
Hardware Wallet Compatibility
- Our platform is designed to work with industry-standard hardware wallets. Private keys remain offline on your secure device, which is used to sign transaction proposals (PSBTs).
Auditable and Transparent
- All transactions are standard Bitcoin transactions, publicly verifiable on the blockchain. The platform helps coordinate the creation and signing of these transactions without taking custody.
No Centralized Server for Keys
- The coordination of public keys happens directly between the participants. The platform's role is to facilitate the construction of unsigned transactions, which are then signed offline by the key holders.
Standardized & Open Source
- We rely on well-established Bitcoin standards like BIP32, BIP39, BIP48, and PSBTs. Our core libraries and tools are open source to ensure transparency and community verification.
